Revealed: Why Juan Mata Did Not Travel With Manchester United Squad For EFL Cup Final

Juan Mata did not join his teammates on their travel to London because he was in Spain to attend his grandfather’s burial.
Reports in Spanish outlet SportsCOPE claim that Mata travelled to Spain for the burial of his grandfather, Manuel in Asturias. The nifty attacker will hope to return to London in time to be part of the team that will face Southampton on Sunday at the Wembley Stadium.

The former Chelsea star has become of the key figure for Jose Mourinho depsite their early differences and is expected to make the starting line-up if he makes it back to England on time.
However, his absence means Jose Mourinho will be left with little options in the midfield following injury to Armenian international Henrikh Mhkitaryan during their Europa league clash against Saint Etienne. The Portuguese boss is left with the options of starting Wayne Rooney in the number 10 role against the Saints.
Juan Mata had earlier revealed how he convinced Mourinho to believe in him at the start of the season, he said: “So many things were said in the summer but I like to speak through my football,
“I knew that many of the things being said were not right, and that a situation was being created that didn’t exist.
